Tacos have become a worldwide sensation with countless gastronomic iterations studding our 50 states alone. To help us find the absolute best tacos in our country, we consulted our friends at Yelp.
Methodology: This is a list of the best taco places in every state in the US in 2019, according to Yelp. We identified businesses in the Taco category, then ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews in 2019.
Yelp provided us with the top five best taco places in each state, and then we hand-picked the best based off of menu items and reviews.

Carniceria y Taqueria San Jose (Mobile, Alabama)
“The street tacos here are amazing! I always go with 2 chicken tacos on corn tortillas with a little queso fresco and the orange spicy salsa on top! Soooo delicious,” wrote one Yelp reviewer.
Deckhand Dave’s Fish Tacos (Juneau, Alaska)
As a former commercial fisherman, Deckhand appreciates sustainability and has experimented with hundreds of fish recipes, which lent him the expertise reflected on this Juneau gem’s menu. You can pair a wild Alaskan fish taco with salmon tots or beer-battered fries.
Maskadores Taco (Phoenix, Arizona)
We read this place dishes up rolled tacos, which is a taco that’s filled with potatoes and the meat is then placed on top. The carnitas and Asada beef varieties have gotten shout-outs on Yelp.
Trickdilly (Bentonville, Arkansas)
One Yelp reviewer said that the tacos are filled generously with meat, so be sure to come to Trickdilly hungry! We read that the best-seller is the brisket taco with pickled watermelon, cotija cheese, and paprika aioli—sounds delicious, right?
Ave 26 Taco Stand (Los Angeles, California)
Not only do the tacos taste amazing at Ave 26 Taco Stand, but the prices are also super affordable, too—each taco is only $1. Apparently, the Al Pastor taco is the best taco they serve; Business Insider went as far as to say that it’s the best taco in the nation.
Gnar (Telluride, Colorado)
The Gnar boasts itself as “a progressive taco shop.” At the Gnar, you can pick and choose between 12 different a la carte tacos, including the Korean short rib, scallop po’ boy, and yard bird.
El Pollo Guapo (Hartford, Connecticut)
With taco names like Hola Guapo!, and C’mon, I’m a Fun-Gai, it’s easy to see why this spot may be a favorite in Connecticut.
El Pique (New Castle, Delaware)
Hungry Delawareans make a beeline for this New Castle taqueria. El Pique offers more than 20 different kinds of tacos, so you’re bound to find at least one that you like!
AIK Taco Masala (Lauderhill, Florida)
A Tikka Masala taco? Sounds delish! AIK stands for Arun’s Indian Kitchen, so when you head to this place for lunch, know that you’re about to get Indian cuisine inspired tacos, including chicken korma and channa masala.
Tacos La Villa (Smyrna, Georgia)
“We got the carnitas and barbacoa tacos just as a stop for a little snack and we totally regretted not having more! Flavors were authentic, and they definitely weren’t stingy with the filling,” wrote one reviewer on Yelp.
Sleeping Giant Grill (Kapaa, Hawaii)
With Hawaii literally being surrounded by a body of water, you would think that the seafood selections there are better there than anywhere else. Apparently, at this place, the fish tacos are a hit among tourists and locals alike.
“We drove all the way from Poipu just to eat super delicious fish tacos and a seared poke bowl,” wrote one reviewer.
“Best fish tacos we had while on the island for an entire week. We tried fish tacos at 4 different restaurants and these guys won by a long shot. They’re so good we ended up going there 3 times just to have the fish tacos,” another wrote.
The Funky Taco (Boise, Idaho)
The tacos served at this place certainly have funky names. One such taco is called the Piggy Stardust, which consists of Mayan slow roasted pork butt wrapped in banana leaves. Another funky taco name is the Fried Flower, which is quite literally fried, panko-dusted cauliflower.
Forastero Restaurant (Chicago, Illinois)
Chef Tony invigorates Forastero’s Asian-fusion menu with 10 different kinds of tacos. These tacos are filled with various ingredients such as tempura haddock, Gochujang-marinated pork with jicama, and Yucatan-style pork roasted in banana leaves.
TaColumbus (Columbus, Indiana)
“I had Asada (beef), pastor (pork) & chicken tacos, all were fantastic. The meat was flavorful, well cooked & very generously portioned. Prices are a bargain at $2.25 each. Glass bottle sugar cane cokes were also around $2. For $10 you get a solid meal that hits the spot,” wrote one reviewer.
Zeke’s Island Cafe (Davenport, Iowa)
With menu items like plantain chips smothered in cheddar cheese, jerk chicken, and garlic chili shrimp, it’s no wonder this is a well-liked restaurant. Check out the Caribbean tacos, which are filled with coleslaw, sour cream, cilantro, and your choice of meat.

Kentucky may be the epicenter of comfort food, and Taco Luchador is no exception. Pair some mole-braised chicken tacos with house-made queso, maduros (gooey and sweet fried plantains), and a pitcher of seasonally-flavored margaritas, frozen or on the rocks.
Catty Shack (New Orleans, Louisiana)
“It’s no secret I love me some Catty Shack. It’s my personal Friday or Saturday treat to myself. It’s my happy dance taco place, I know my evening will be made by the delicious tacos of Catty Shack,” one reviewer penned on Yelp.
Bird & Co (Portland, Maine)
You can get traditional carne asada and carnitas tacos at Bird & Co, but you can also order more out-of-the-box tacos, including a Bahn Mi taco and even a taco filled with duck meat.
Mother’s Cantina (Ocean City, Maryland)
During happy hour, you can order one of six different tacos for anywhere between $1.50 and $2.25 each.
Aaron’s Taco Cart’el (Stoneham, Massachusetts)
At Aaron’s Taco Cart’el, you can expect great food and customer service.
“The food is so delicious and their customer service is amazing. I came here today at 11 am and bought the three tacos for 10. I picked the corn tortilla with the carne asada. The beef was cooked to perfection. It was tender and favorable. The combination of the toppings (pico de gallo, radish and guacamole) with a squirt of lime juice just enhanced the flavors of the beef,” wrote one reviewer on Yelp.

Bajamar Seafood & Tacos (Las Vegas, Nevada)
Fuel up with raw ceviche tacos topped with pico and crema before walking the Vegas strip or hiking through Red Rock Canyon. Bartaco North Hills (Raleigh, North Carolina)
Bartaco is a popular chain taco restaurant serving anything from tacos filled with roasted duck, pork belly, and even swordfish.
Vinyl Taco (Fargo, North Dakota)
Sebastian B. deems this destination “Not your average Mexican joint,” adding that, “They have crazy creations, like chicken skin chicharrones with Habenero BBQ sauce and jalapeño ranch. I had 3 tacos, crispy fish with Sriracha tartar sauce, red slaw with Serrano pepper and avocado salsa, and the pork belly agridulche [with] au jus, [which] was delicious.”
Condado Tacos (Dublin, Ohio)
Condado Tacos is a hit in and around Columbus, Ohio. At this taco place, you check the boxes of what you want on your taco, as well as which taco base you want. There are a few suggestions, though. For example, the ooey-gooey, which is a hard corn shell with queso smothered in its crevices, plus chicken and black beans, then drizzled with the restaurant’s own sauce.
Revolución Taqueria & Cantina (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma)
Calling all vegans, vegetarians, and those who just prefer to cut down on their meat consumption from time to time—this taqueria offers a taco with Beyond Meat in it! They also offer a wild mushroom variety as well if that’s more your speed.

El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant (Rapid City, South Dakota)
“I’ve been to a lot of Mexican joints across the US and this little oasis in Rapid City is a gem. Really good street tacos. Nice salsa and chips. We’ve eaten here a handful of times and each time the food never disappointed us. The staff are friendly and treat their customers like good friends and family. Highly recommended it [to] everyone,” wrote a local Yelp reviewer.
Mas Tacos (Nashville, Tennessee)
“I have been to Mas Tacos about 3 or 4 times now, and it never disappoints! You literally cannot go wrong with any of the tacos on the menu. My only recommendation would be to try the fried plantains. They are absolutely delicious,” says one reviewer on Yelp.

Granny’s Tacos (Austin, Texas)
Grandma does everything best, and Chef Vasquez’s traditional street tacos are no exception. Yelpers rave over the specialty tacos, including the “Abuela” with shredded pork and chunky avocado. La Cocina Mexican Street Food (Saint George, Utah)
“We got an al pastor quesadilla and mulitas with al pastor, Asada, chile verde. Al pastor was super delicious, and I like that they give you sour cream and guacamole with the quesadilla. Chile verde was tasty without much heat, and the Asada was pretty good and I liked that it didn’t have gristle,” says Aaron R.

“Great Taco spot with happy hour tacos! The tacos that usually cost $3.75 is $2.00 during happy hour Monday-Friday. I paid regular price for the oxtail taco which was delicious. Also ordered the buttermilk fried chicken which is tasty with a little spice to it. My favorite taco was the catfish taco and that was seasoned and fried to perfection.
